Job Description
The Retail Business Manager will be responsible for managing the commercial performance of a defined geographic network of bp retail sites. This includes developing and implementing business strategies to drive fuel and convenience revenue, ensuring compliance with HSSE, legislative, and operational standards. The role will focus on maximizing profitability by monitoring KPIs, coaching partners, and managing relationships with site operators. The incumbent will conduct site visits, evaluate business performance, resolve operational issues, and maintain high standards of execution and service across all locations.
This role demands strong leadership, retail acumen, and an ability to act with urgency to maintain high-performing, customer-focused operations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Own full P&L responsibility across a defined retail network in KZN
Spend 80% of the time interacting with business partners to grow revenue
Monitor and act on performance indicators to optimize operations
Ensure site operators meet contractual obligations and uphold company standards
Provide coaching to dealers and staff for operational excellence
Address performance gaps and enforce accountability
Conduct regular site visits based on priority and business needs
Facilitate quarterly territory meetings and maintain proper documentation
Uphold compliance with legal, safety, and brand standards
Identify and contribute to network development opportunities
Translate financial and performance data into actionable strategies
Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with partners and internal teams
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or equivalent experience
Experience:
Minimum 4 years’ experience in a sales environment
Previous retail experience is desirable
Proven ability to lead and coach teams to deliver high performance
Strong financial acumen and ability to interpret KPIs
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
Ability to understand and interpret legal contracts
Self-motivated with a track record of continuous performance improvement
