Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising contractors on-site, communicating the Engineer's instructions, and ensuring project execution aligns with approved plans, technical specifications, and safety standards. Responsibilities include contract administration, risk management, coordination with communities and authorities, managing payment certifications, handling design issues, and compiling all construction documentation and reports. The Resident Engineer will also liaise with specialists in safety, environment, and social matters while ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant construction laws.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Oversee the administration of construction contracts in line with GCC2015
Liaise with contractors, clients, and communities regarding project execution
Coordinate permits and documentation for works commencement
Monitor contractor performance, safety compliance, and project milestones
Assist with environmental and health & safety compliance
Ensure compliance with technical standards and specifications
Measure quantities and review payment certificates
Manage variations and contractor claims
Keep detailed site records, including a daily diary
Ensure preparation and accuracy of as-built drawings and construction reports
Coordinate final inspections, certificates, and close-out documentation
Provide regular progress reports and updates to the Senior Resident Engineer
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
BScEng or equivalent in Civil Engineering
Professional registration with ECSA as PrEng
Registration with SACPCMP as PrCPM (advantageous)
Experience:
10–15+ years’ experience in major civil construction projects
Proven experience managing large multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects
Competencies:
Strong leadership and project management skills
Excellent communication and reporting abilities
Sound understanding of construction contracts (e.g., GCC2015)
Ability to manage technical, social, and environmental aspects of projects
Proficient in risk analysis, claims management, and costing systems
