Job Description
The appointed Research Technicians will be responsible for delivering reliable analytical and diagnostic testing services within a veterinary virology laboratory. Key tasks include conducting serological tests such as HA/HI, AGID, ELISA, and VNT; receiving, recording, and registering samples; maintaining accurate records; and storing samples appropriately. Technicians will also contribute to the development and refinement of diagnostic methods in collaboration with laboratory leadership and support ongoing research projects by providing technical input and performing assigned laboratory tasks.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Perform HA/HI, AGID, ELISA, and VNT diagnostic tests
Receive and record sample information in logs and laboratory systems
Accurately register and store incoming veterinary samples
Record results in result books and the LabWare system
Contribute to the improvement and development of new test methods
Assist in research projects through technical input and task execution
Maintain adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 quality standards
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
National Diploma / BTech / BHSc in Veterinary Technology or a related field
Professional Registration:
Mandatory registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as a Veterinary Technologist
Skills and Knowledge:
Familiarity with veterinary viral pathogens and diseases
Strong attention to detail and adherence to quality procedures
Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
A valid driver’s license is an added advantage
