Job Description
The successful candidate will lead and conduct sensory and consumer research, including descriptive and discriminating analysis, time intensity, texture analysis, and preference testing. Responsibilities include planning and scheduling analytical services, managing data, reporting, stock control, equipment maintenance, and administrative support. The role also requires training of new panel members and strict compliance with laboratory safety and financial procedures.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct sensory and consumer research (e.g., texture analysis, preference testing)
Apply scientific methods and complete tasks according to quality standards
Schedule and plan sensory services per scientific protocols
Collect, process, and capture sensory data
Report results accurately and promptly
Perform administrative tasks including quotations, orders, and payment requests
Manage lab stock and assist with procurement
Maintain and monitor lab equipment and report malfunctions
Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant lab environment
Support training of taste panel members
Comply with safety, financial, and quality policies
Work overtime when required
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Requirements:
National Diploma in Consumer/Food Science or equivalent
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
Knowledge of sensory evaluation and consumer research techniques
Proficient in data analysis, reporting, and lab protocols
Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills
Able to work independently and in a team
Attention to detail and confidentiality
Valid SA driver’s license and/or own transport
Desirable:
Registration with a relevant scientific body (if applicable)
Ability to interpret scientific data and perform under pressure
