Uganda National Medical Stores (NMS) is a government-owned organization mandated to procure, store, and distribute essential medicines and medical supplies to public health facilities across the country, with a mission to effectively and efficiently supply quality medicines and health supplies to the people of Uganda. Established in 1993 under the NMS Act, the institution has grown into a critical pillar in Uganda’s healthcare delivery system, recognized for its reliability, transparency, and integrity in public health supply chain management.

National Medical Stores is an autonomous Corporation that was established by an Act of Parliament in 1993. Our mandate is to procure, store and distribute medicines and other medical supplies to health facilities.
Our vision is "A POPULATION WITH ADEQUATE AND ACCESSIBLE MEDICINES AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES"

Our Mission is "TO EFFECTIVELY AND EFFICIENTLY SUPPLY ESSENTIAL MEDICINES AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO HEALTH FACILITIES IN UGANDA"

We are now looking for competent persons who possess appropriate skills, knowledge and right attitude to fill vacant positions, which have fallen vacant within the NMS Structure. Applications are now invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following vacant position existing at the NMS Head Office

Media Relations:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, and influencers.

  • Write and distribute press releases, news articles, and media kits.

  • Organize press conferences, media briefings, and interviews.


Publicity Campaigns:

  • Plan and execute publicity campaigns to promote the organization’s products, services, or initiatives.

  • Create and manage content for social media, websites, and other digital platforms.

  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of publicity campaigns.


Crisis Management:

  • Develop and implement crisis communication strategies.

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson during crises or sensitive situations.

  • Manage the dissemination of information to the media and public during crises.


Event Management:

  • Plan and coordinate public events, including product launches, conferences, and community outreach programs.

  • Ensure events are well-publicized and align with the organization’s image and goals.

  • Handle logistics and manage event budgets.


Internal Communications:

  • Develop internal communication strategies to keep employees informed and engaged.

  • Produce internal newsletters, memos, and updates.

  • Organize internal events and meetings.


Brand Management:

  • Maintain and enhance the organization’s brand image and identity.

  • Ensure consistency in messaging across all communication channels.

  • Monitor public perception of the organization and its brand.


Content Creation:

  • Write and edit speeches, presentations, and other communication materials for executives and key personnel.

  • Develop content for brochures, annual reports, and marketing materials.

  • Manage the production of multimedia content, including videos and podcasts.


Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and community leaders.

  • Conduct stakeholder surveys and gather feedback.

  • Represent the organization at public functions and industry events.


Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor media coverage and public opinion about the organization.

  • Prepare reports on PR activities and their outcomes.

  • Conduct market research to identify PR opportunities and trends.

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

  • Advanced degrees or certifications in public relations, communications, or related disciplines are advantageous.


Experience:

  • Proven experience in public relations, communications, or media relations.

  • Experience working with various media channels and digital platforms.

  • Experience in managing PR campaigns and events.


Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Proficiency in using PR tools and software, such as media databases and monitoring tools.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.


Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of media relations and public relations principles.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies.

  • Understanding of crisis communication and brand management.


Abilities:

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and environments.


Other:

  • High level of professionalism and ethical conduct.

  • Willingness to travel as required.

  • Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages may be beneficial depending on the region of work.
