Job Description
The Plant Technician (Electrical) will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of hybrid borehole water pumping systems, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply to schools, hospitals, and other community infrastructure. The role involves performing electrical diagnostics, handling three-phase submersible motors, troubleshooting diesel generators, and optimizing solar energy systems. The technician must demonstrate proficiency in electrical control systems and be capable of implementing preventive maintenance and fault resolution strategies.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Operate and maintain hybrid solar-diesel borehole pumping systems.
Diagnose and resolve electrical faults in pumps, motors, and control systems.
Conduct routine inspections and assessments on submersible motors and pumps.
Use diagnostic tools such as megohmmeters, thermography, and vibration analyzers.
Maintain motor protection devices (e.g., MP204), contactors, and relays.
Perform generator maintenance including load testing and voltage regulation.
Troubleshoot and optimize solar power systems, including inverters and batteries.
Ensure safety standards in electrical grounding and wiring.
Monitor pump performance and energy efficiency to reduce diesel dependency.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Certification in solar systems or diesel generator maintenance is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in hybrid borehole water pumping systems.
Skills and Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of submersible pumps and electrical fault diagnosis.
Strong experience with electrical control devices such as MP204, overload relays, and changeover switches.
Expertise in preventive maintenance and system efficiency assessments.
Capability to work independently and resolve complex technical issues.
Familiarity with solar and diesel system integration and optimization.
