Job Description
Reporting to the Programme Coordinator, the Plant Pathology Laboratory Technician will be responsible for processing plant samples, isolating and identifying plant pathogens (fungi, bacteria, viruses, and nematodes), and conducting microscopic examinations. The role involves preparing media and reagents, maintaining fungal cultures, and ensuring accurate laboratory records. The Technician will also maintain laboratory equipment, uphold safety standards, and manage laboratory data systems. Additionally, the Technician will assist in plant disease management programs, provide technical support to researchers, and deliver training to farmers and stakeholders. Effective planning, procurement of consumables, and contributing to safe laboratory operations will also form part of this role.

How to Apply
Collect, receive, and process plant samples for disease diagnosis.
Conduct microscopic examinations of plant tissues and fungal cultures.
Isolate and identify plant pathogens (fungi, bacteria, viruses, nematodes).
Prepare and maintain fungal cultures and relevant biological materials.
Perform standard laboratory techniques such as culturing, staining, and biochemical tests.
Prepare laboratory media, reagents, and solutions.
Maintain detailed laboratory records and databases of diagnostic results.
Ensure calibration, functionality, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a clean environment.
Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and research findings.
Provide technical support to plant pathologists and researchers.
Assist in the development and implementation of plant disease management programs.
Train farmers, students, and stakeholders on plant pathology practices.
Plan, requisition, and manage procurement of laboratory materials and consumables.
Manage resources and assets under laboratory responsibility efficiently.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology, Crop Production, or Molecular Biology.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory or research experience.

Digital literacy (Microsoft Office and laboratory software).
