Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum aligned with state standards, educational objectives, and the needs of students at various grade levels.
Instruction: Teach physical education classes to students, providing instruction in a variety of activities and sports. Adapt teaching methods and strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
Skill Development: Facilitate skill development in various physical activities, such as team sports, individual sports, fitness exercises, and recreational games. Provide guidance, feedback, and coaching to help students improve their skills and technique.
Fitness Education: Educate students about the importance of physical fitness, health-related fitness components, and strategies for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Promote physical activity as a means of improving overall health and well-being.
Safety and Injury Prevention: Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment by enforcing safety rules, supervising activities, and teaching proper techniques to prevent injuries. Administer first aid and emergency care as needed.
Assessment and Evaluation: Assess student progress and achievement in physical education through observation, performance assessments, skill tests, and fitness assessments. Provide feedback to students and parents on individual progress and areas for improvement.
Inclusion and Differentiation: Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity and accommodates the needs of all students. Modify instruction and activities to meet the needs of students with disabilities or special needs.
Class Management: Manage classroom behavior, promote positive social interaction, and reinforce good sportsmanship and teamwork. Establish and enforce rules and expectations for behavior during physical education classes.
Equipment and Facility Management: Maintain and organize equipment, supplies, and facilities used for physical education classes. Ensure equipment is in good condition, properly stored, and used safely by students.
Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance teaching skills, stay updated on best practices in physical education, and fulfill licensure or certification requirements. Participate in professional organizations and attend workshops or conferences related to physical education.
Parent and Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about students' progress, participation, and behavior in physical education classes. Foster positive relationships with families and involve them in supporting students' physical activity outside of school.
Extracurricular Activities: Organize and supervise extracurricular sports teams, intramural programs, fitness clubs, or recreational activities to provide additional opportunities for student participation in physical activity.

Licensure/Certification: Most states require physical education teachers to be licensed or certified to teach in public schools. Requirements vary by state but often include completion of an approved teacher preparation program and passing licensure exams.
Content Knowledge: Strong knowledge of physical education principles, theories, and best practices. Familiarity with fitness concepts, motor development, sports skills, and health-related fitness components.
Teaching Skills: Effective teaching skills, including the ability to plan and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons, manage classroom behavior, and assess student learning.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Ability to communicate clearly and convey enthusiasm for physical activity and health.
Physical Fitness: Demonstrated physical fitness and proficiency in a variety of physical activities and sports. Ability to serve as a role model for students and promote active participation in physical education.
Safety Training: Training in first aid, CPR, and emergency response protocols. Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures for physical education activities and sports.
Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate diverse student needs, interests, and abilities. Ability to modify instruction and activities to meet individual learning styles and developmental levels.
Technology Skills: Proficiency in educational technology tools and resources for lesson planning, instructional delivery, and assessment. Familiarity with fitness tracking devices, video analysis software, and other technology used in physical education.
