Job Description
Working closely with the Director of Individual Giving and the Major Gifts team, the Philanthropic Specialist manages a portfolio of approximately 150 high-net-worth donors, developing individualized engagement strategies and securing major gifts and legacy commitments. This role requires conducting personal visits, maintaining donor records, crafting cases for giving, and leveraging strategic communication to maximize philanthropic contributions. The specialist is expected to stay informed on fundraising techniques, attend professional development trainings, and represent PETA’s mission and values in all interactions.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of 150 qualified major donors
Conduct a minimum of 10 donor visits (virtual or in-person) per month
Lead donor pipeline activities: qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Solicit major and legacy gifts to PETA
Create and implement customized donor engagement and communication plans
Collaborate with internal staff to deepen donor relationships
Participate in donor events and cultivation activities
Maintain detailed donor records in the database
Research and write tailored “cases for giving”
Stay current on fundraising best practices and attend relevant seminars
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years of successful major gift fundraising experience (5-figure gifts)
High-level organizational skills, initiative, and attention to detail
Strong persuasive written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships
Strategic thinking and project management expertise
Proficiency in donor databases and Microsoft 365 tools
Ability to work independently with strict confidentiality
Professional demeanor and commitment to a vegan lifestyle
Willingness to travel; valid U.S. driver’s license with clean driving record
Must be at least 21 years old and able to lift up to 20 lbs
Strong alignment with PETA’s mission and advocacy principles
