The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Communications Advisor works with the PEPFAR Coordination Office and Interagency Health Team (IAHT) to formulate Mission-wide strategic communication plans and messages, and implement development, outreach, and communications efforts to increase awareness of PEPFAR programs in Uganda. The position will support the Senior Health Communications Advisor to plan, organize and implement public awareness campaigns in support of PEPFAR Uganda programs. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the interagency PEPFAR team’s input on various communication deliverables and developing required documents for internal events. This position reports to the PEPFAR Country Coordinator.
Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and implement strategic communication plans aligned with PEPFAR's objectives, ensuring consistency and coherence in messaging across various platforms.
Media Relations: Cultivate relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to generate positive coverage of PEPFAR initiatives and outcomes. This involves preparing press releases, organizing press briefings, and responding to media inquiries.
Content Creation: Produce compelling written, visual, and multimedia content such as articles, blog posts, videos, infographics, and social media posts to raise awareness about PEPFAR's activities and impact.
Digital Engagement: Manage PEPFAR's digital presence across social media platforms, website, and other online channels, engaging with stakeholders and fostering dialogue around HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and support.
Internal Communication: Facilitate effective communication within the organization, ensuring staff members are informed about key developments, priorities, and success stories.
Collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams, government agencies, partner organizations, and other stakeholders to align communication efforts and leverage resources for maximum impact.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Track the performance of communication activities, analyzing metrics and feedback to assess effectiveness and make data-driven adjustments as needed.

Communications Expertise: A strong background in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in developing and executing communication strategies.
Understanding of HIV/AIDS Issues: Knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care issues, as well as familiarity with global health policy and programs, particularly those related to PEPFAR.
Media Savvy: Proficiency in media relations, including experience in pitching stories, handling press inquiries, and managing media partnerships.
Creative Skills: Ability to generate innovative ideas and produce high-quality content across various formats and platforms to engage diverse audiences.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to interpret data and insights, measure the impact of communication efforts, and make evidence-based recommendations for improvement.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards.
Cross-Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural differences and experience working in multicultural settings, particularly in the context of global health and development.
Languages: Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those spoken in regions where PEPFAR operates, may be advantageous for engaging with local communities and stakeholders.
