Assessing the physical, mental, and emotional needs of pediatric patients and their families
Providing education and support to parents and caregivers on child health issues, such as nutrition, immunization, and safety
Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by physicians
Monitoring vital signs, growth, and development of pediatric patients
Performing diagnostic tests and procedures, such as blood draws, urine tests, and x-rays
Documenting and reporting patient information and progress to the health care team
Collaborating with other health care professionals, such as pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and social workers

A bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or an associate degree in nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
They must also pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and obtain a state license to practice nursing.
Additionally, some employers may require or prefer candidates who have a certification in pediatric nursing from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
A pediatric nurse must also have excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills, as well as compassion and patience for working with children and their families.
