Job Description
The Pastry Chef will be responsible for preparing and presenting an assortment of pastries, baked goods, and desserts. This includes following established recipes, developing new and innovative dessert offerings, and maintaining proper food safety and hygiene practices. The Pastry Chef will work closely with other kitchen and service staff to fulfill daily pastry needs and event-specific requirements. They will also oversee inventory management, control food wastage, and may supervise junior kitchen staff.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare a variety of pastries, baked items, and desserts according to hotel standards
Innovate and create new dessert offerings to improve guest experience
Ensure consistent quality and presentation of all baked goods
Collaborate with kitchen and service staff to meet daily or event pastry requirements
Maintain a clean and organized pastry workstation
Monitor ingredient inventory and submit supply requisitions when necessary
Control food waste and ensure proper portion sizes to reduce costs
Train and supervise junior kitchen staff assigned to the pastry section
Adhere strictly to hygiene, sanitation, and safety protocols
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum of OND or professional culinary certification in Pastry/Baking
At least 2 years of experience as a Pastry Chef, preferably in a hotel or upscale bakery
Familiarity with both international and local dessert styles
Creativity and artistic flair in dessert presentation
Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and temperature control
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills
