Packaging Food Safety and Trade Specialist

Position: Quality Assurance Specialist

Nile Breweries Ltd, a proud part of AB InBev, is looking for a dedicated and proactive Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team in Mbarara. This role is critical in supporting the company’s business strategy by delivering expert supply chain and trade insights that enhance product quality, brand strength, and consumer satisfaction.

Role Purpose

To ensure product excellence by applying quality assurance systems, leading quality control processes, and supporting continuous improvement. This position plays a vital role in safeguarding the reputation of our brands in the trade through proactive monitoring, analysis, and coaching.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Monitor and report on trade quality, taste panel results, and in-trade assessments.

  • Maintain and review Packaging IQMS, PPQA, and laboratory records.

  • Manage reference sample integrity and inter-lab error control processes.

  • Ensure adherence to manualized calibration frequencies and instrument maintenance.

  • Ensure compliance with standard operating practices, calibration protocols, and quality manuals.

Data & Reporting

  • Compile and analyze quality information reports and trends.

  • Document and manage test results, ERI records, SPC systems, and customer complaints.

  • Provide timely communication of lab results to key stakeholders.

Problem Solving & Process Improvement

  • Use analytical techniques to support problem-solving and root cause analysis.

  • Implement quality improvement recommendations and support audits.

  • Assess and support technical requirements for process optimization.

Training & Development

  • Coach and develop lab technicians and production teams on quality standards and testing procedures.

  • Identify training needs through quality audits and CAP assessments.

  • Facilitate taste education sessions and product taint netting.

Leadership & Communication

  • Communicate clearly on product and process quality matters.

  • Provide leadership that fosters a strong commitment to quality at all levels.

  • Collaborate with operations, packaging, and brewing teams to ensure adherence to quality systems.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of process control in brewing and packaging environments

  • Analytical, assertive, and proactive mindset

  • Proven leadership and coaching abilities

  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Excellence principles

  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field

  • 2–3 years of experience in a laboratory, brewing, or packaging environment

  • 3–6 months of hands-on, on-the-job training

  • Strong familiarity with lab procedures and quality control systems
