Job Description
The Operations Research Coordinator will work closely with the Senior Operations Research Advisor to execute the operations and implementation research mandate on the LPHS project. She will actively participate in the preparation, conduct and documentation of research priorities identified by the LPHS leadership. She will work to ensure visibility of TB interventions implemented by the IDI at all local fora. She will also actively support the National TB and Leprosy program to execute research priorities identified by the program. She will actively build capacity for research, conduct and documentation at NTLP and within the project particularly for district level officers. She will also work closely with the M&E team to review project data and document successful interventions for National, regional and international conferences.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
General
Work with the Senior Operations Research Advisor to ensure that the updated research agenda is reviewed and ratified by the National TB and Leprosy Program
Coordinate the formulation of an online research repository for all major TB related research activities within the country.
Participate in major NTLP led activities e.g., the Surveillance, Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (SMEaR) Working group; the National drug resistant TB panel; the DR TB Technical Working group; NTLP Weekly planning meeting.
Draft periodic (quarterly and annual) Operations research reports and work plans
Research Conduct
Actively participate in the drafting of major project protocols and support the NTLP in the drafting of protocols for priority NTLP led studies.
Work with IDI internal monitoring and regulatory framework to have all LPHS/NTLP protocols approved as per institutional and National regulatory framework before execution of LPHS and NTLP led protocols.
Research Dissemination
Work with project Director to ensure that institutional TB work is visible at all local for a including the IDI Science Fair, the National QI Conference, the PEPFAR Science Summit and the National TB Stakeholders Conference.
Participate in the preparation of manuscripts from studies results arising from the execution of LPHS and NTLP led protocols.
Work with the LPHS-TB team to develop and submit abstracts from successful project interventions to national, regional and international conferences.
Support the NTLP to review abstracts from successful program interventions to national, regional and international conferences.
Participate in the drafting of project success stories to be included in the NTLP quarterly bulletin and in the quarterly project report.
Perform any other duties relevant to the project as assigned by the Project and Deputy project Director.
Qualifications and Competencies
Person Specification
Qualification requirements:
Must possess a
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
Masters’ degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or Internal Medicine
Additional training in Health Services management or the management of Tuberculosis and Leprosy are an added advantage.
Candidates with a Diploma in Clinical Medicine may be considered if they meet the other qualification requirements.
Must have at least ten years of experience in Medical Practice
Must have hands on experience in project implementation for TB, HIV and/or malaria.
Must have demonstrated scientific writing skills evidenced by at least one first author manuscripts and conference presentations.
Must have previous experience working with Ministry bodies e.g., the Ministry of Health
Experience with training and skills build approaches will be an added advantage.
