Job Description
The Nutritionist I will report to the Facility In-charge at a level 2 facility and will be responsible for delivering nutrition services including screening, treatment, and micronutrient supplementation. The role involves implementing ComPAS/IMAM protocols for managing malnutrition, supporting the Baby Friendly Community Initiative (BFCI), supervising nutrition assessments, mentoring staff, maintaining accurate data records, ensuring availability of nutrition supplies, and integrating nutritional services into other health programs. The Nutritionist will also be required to compile reports, participate in facility meetings, and contribute to strategic decision-making on nutrition service delivery.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Implement ComPAS/IMAM protocols and manage acute malnutrition cases in under-fives and pregnant/lactating women
Conduct screenings, assessments, and provide therapeutic care at health facilities
Support the implementation of Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) and promote breastfeeding initiatives
Provide mentorship and on-the-job training for health workers including CHWs and nurses
Conduct daily ward rounds and ensure proper documentation of observations and treatment
Ensure integration of nutrition services in outpatient, inpatient, and special clinics
Monitor and reconcile use of nutrition commodities and supplies
Compile and submit weekly and monthly nutrition reports
Participate in facility-based data review and order necessary nutrition commodities
Carry out other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Degree in Foods, Nutrition, and Dietetics from a recognized institution
Registered with the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI)
Minimum 2 years’ experience with an INGO in emergency nutrition programming
Proven experience in Maternal and Child Nutrition, BFHI/BFCI, and Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM)
Strong skills in report writing, data analysis, and use of health information systems
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills
Ability to work in challenging, resource-limited settings (camp experience is an advantage)
Computer literacy and strategic planning capacity
Flexible and positive personality with a proactive approach to challenges
