Job Description

Overall, the role of a medical officer is multifaceted, encompassing clinical care, public health promotion, research, and administrative duties aimed at improving health outcomes for individuals and communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patient Care: Medical officers are often involved in direct patient care, which includes conducting medical examinations, diagnosing illnesses, prescribing treatment plans, and providing ongoing medical care.

  • Emergency Response: They may be required to respond to medical emergencies, providing immediate care and stabilization to patients in critical condition.

  • Health Promotion and Education: Medical officers play a key role in promoting public health by educating patients and communities about preventive measures, healthy lifestyle choices, and disease management.

  • Medical Research: Some medical officers may be involved in medical research, conducting studies to advance medical knowledge, develop new treatments, or improve existing healthcare practices.

  • Administrative Duties: Depending on their role and seniority, medical officers may have administrative responsibilities such as managing healthcare facilities, overseeing staff, and developing policies and procedures.

  • Collaboration with Healthcare Team: They work closely with other healthcare professionals including nurses, pharmacists, specialists, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.

  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Medical officers are responsible for maintaining accurate medical records, documenting patient care activities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • MBChB Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University or Institution;

  • Master of Medicine in Anesthesia or its equivalent from a recognized University or Institution; Registration certificates and valid practicing licenses:

  • National ID.

  • Reporting and functional relationship: Responds to: Medical Coordinator.
