Job Description
Overall, the role of a medical officer is multifaceted, encompassing clinical care, public health promotion, research, and administrative duties aimed at improving health outcomes for individuals and communities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care: Medical officers are often involved in direct patient care, which includes conducting medical examinations, diagnosing illnesses, prescribing treatment plans, and providing ongoing medical care.
Emergency Response: They may be required to respond to medical emergencies, providing immediate care and stabilization to patients in critical condition.
Health Promotion and Education: Medical officers play a key role in promoting public health by educating patients and communities about preventive measures, healthy lifestyle choices, and disease management.
Medical Research: Some medical officers may be involved in medical research, conducting studies to advance medical knowledge, develop new treatments, or improve existing healthcare practices.
Administrative Duties: Depending on their role and seniority, medical officers may have administrative responsibilities such as managing healthcare facilities, overseeing staff, and developing policies and procedures.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team: They work closely with other healthcare professionals including nurses, pharmacists, specialists, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
Documentation and Record-Keeping: Medical officers are responsible for maintaining accurate medical records, documenting patient care activities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Continuing Education: They must stay current with advancements in medical knowledge and technology through ongoing education, attending conferences, and participating in professional development activities.
Ethical Practice: Medical officers must adhere to ethical standards and principles in their practice, including patient confidentiality, informed consent, and maintaining professional boundaries.

Qualifications and Competencies
MBChB Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University or Institution;
Master of Medicine in Anesthesia or its equivalent from a recognized University or Institution; Registration certificates and valid practicing licenses:
National ID.
Reporting and functional relationship: Responds to: Medical Coordinator.
