Job Description
The Maintenance Engineer (Substations) is responsible for ensuring efficient operation, reliability, and safety of primary transmission substation equipment including power transformers, auxiliary systems, voltage regulating equipment, and switchgear. The role involves planning and executing preventative and corrective maintenance activities to minimise downtime and maintain optimal performance. Reports to the Senior Maintenance Engineer (Substations).
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for substation equipment.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergency repairs.
- Perform routine inspections of substation equipment and systems.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Maintain records of equipment performance and maintenance history.
- Install and commission substation plants, equipment, and auxiliary circuits.
- Conduct risk assessments before maintenance activities and enforce safe working practices.
- Compile and update a database of all substation drawings, plant equipment, tools, and consumables.
- Manage the substation maintenance unit testing equipment store.
- Prepare job reports and weekly/monthly maintenance progress reports.
