Job Description
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for providing mechanical support through general repairs and servicing of trucks and load bodies. The role also includes accident reporting, vehicle follow-up, tyre management, and attending to truck breakdowns. Daily checks for oil, water, and tyre pressure form part of routine responsibilities. The ideal candidate must have a basic mechanical background, the ability to work on-call, and practical knowledge of truck and bakkie maintenance.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Perform general repairs on trucks and truck load bodies
Service and maintain trucks and bakkies
Report accidents and follow up on vehicle repairs
Replace and service brakes; carry out other general mechanical repairs
Check, repair, and replace punctured and worn tyres
Conduct daily checks on oil, water, and tyre pressure
Attend to truck breakdowns and provide roadside assistance
Perform standby duties including mechanical troubleshooting and wheel repairs
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Matric/Equivalent
Valid Code 10 (C1) driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Experience in vehicle servicing and mechanical repairs
Knowledge of truck maintenance procedures
Ability to perform under pressure and respond to breakdowns
Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions
