Job Description
As a Legal Counsel within the Global Hub Legal Team, you will handle a wide range of complex legal and governance matters across multiple jurisdictions. Reporting to the Head of Legal (Regions), you will collaborate with regional and country offices, business units, and senior stakeholders globally. You will offer practical legal solutions, coordinate with external legal firms where necessary, and support the organization with issues such as employment law, contract management, governance, data protection, intellectual property, restructuring, and legal claims. This role requires both legal acumen and problem-solving ability to support Plan International’s strategic mission and operations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide legal counsel on domestic and international matters affecting Plan International.
Draft and review contracts and commercial agreements.
Advise on employment law, governance, data privacy, and intellectual property issues.
Identify legal and operational risks and provide strategic advice.
Liaise with external counsel as needed.
Contribute to decision-making processes and policy development.
Support governance structures and subsidiary management.
Work closely with regional and country-level teams to ensure compliance with laws and policies.
Use legal expertise to guide broader organizational problem-solving.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualified lawyer (minimum 3 years post-qualification experience) in the UK, US, or Kenya.
Fluency in English and good spoken and written French.
Experience in-house or with international NGOs is an asset.
Strong experience in commercial contracts and at least some of the following areas: employment law, restructuring, corporate governance, data privacy, IP, tax, dispute resolution.
Ability to identify legal risks and deliver pragmatic solutions.
Strong drafting, advisory, and problem-solving skills.
High integrity, collaborative approach, self-motivation, and organizational skills.
Interest or experience in legal issues in African jurisdictions is desirable.
