Job Description

The Locum Laboratory Advisor will collaborate with clusters, district teams, and national laboratory institutions to ensure quality laboratory management systems are in place and operational. This includes strengthening sample referral systems, monitoring biosafety, enhancing data use, ensuring equipment functionality, supporting accreditation processes, and developing laboratory implementation plans and reports. The advisor will also participate in quality assurance, training of site-level teams, and coordination of logistics related to laboratory commodities.

How to Apply

  • Strengthen hub and hub network systems for sample and result transport/referral for Viral Load, EID PCR, CD4, sputum, serology, and chemistry within acceptable turnaround times.

  • Support and monitor implementation of laboratory accreditation processes in line with WHO AFRO SLMTA standards.

  • Provide technical guidance for biosafety and waste management practices to ensure compliance with Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plan (EMMP).

  • Work with program officers and district hub coordinators to train laboratory teams in HIV/TB lab service delivery, commodity management, and quality assurance.

  • Collaborate with the logistics/supply chain advisor to ensure accurate ordering and redistribution of lab supplies across facilities.

  • Monitor laboratory equipment service schedules, maintenance, and repairs.

  • Support quality control inspections and ensure high-quality documentation of lab processes.

  • Develop laboratory master concepts, implementation plans, budgets, and activity reports.

  • Document and share best practices, success stories, and innovations in laboratory services.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science or related field; a Master’s in Public Health or Project Management is an added advantage.

  • At least 5 years of experience working in donor-funded HIV/TB programs.

  • Familiarity with local government/district operations and a willingness to work in rural settings.

  • Strong command of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), data analytics, and data use for decision-making.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills.
