Job Description
The Junior Researcher will engage in molecular diagnostics and assist in developing molecular and serological diagnostic assays. The incumbent will be responsible for managing laboratory equipment and research materials, participating in skill development within the division, identifying personal learning opportunities, and ensuring compliance with Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols. The role also requires research support activities, including contributing to peer-reviewed publications and technical project work.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct molecular diagnostic testing
Support research in the development of molecular and serological assays
Manage laboratory equipment and research materials
Participate in and facilitate technical capacity development within the division
Seek and engage in learning and development opportunities
Ensure adherence to SHE/OHS policies and procedures
Contribute to scientific publications and reports

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
BSc (Hons) / MSc in Biological Sciences or MTech in Veterinary Technology
Experience:
At least 3 years of relevant post-degree experience
Professional Registration:
Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as a Veterinary Technologist
Other Requirements:
At least one peer-reviewed publication
Strong laboratory and diagnostic skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a research team
Good communication, organization, and documentation skills
