Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm located in Butembe, Buikwe district, on the shores of Lake Victoria. Established in 2019, it is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V., a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture-related assets in Africa. Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture, is one of the largest fish farms in Africa, and Yalelo Uganda continues to expand in this field.

Job Description

Reporting to the HR Officer, the HR Assistant will provide clerical and administrative support for HR functions, ensuring smooth operations within the HR department. The role includes assisting with recruitment, performance management, compensation, and benefits administration, as well as staff welfare activities. Additionally, the HR Assistant will maintain accurate personnel records, handle grievances, assist in performance reviews, and support in recruitment and talent management.

The HR Assistant will:

  • Provide administrative support to HR executives.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel records and HR systems.

  • Assist in recruitment, including shortlisting, scheduling, and coordinating interviews.

  • Support the performance management process and compile performance appraisals.

  • Help organize staff motivation and welfare activities, including events.

  • Educate employees on policies and procedures.

  • Track and update daily staff attendance, shift schedules, and leave.

  • Compile and submit overtime data for payroll processing.

  • Ensure compliance with PPE requirements.

  • Address employee queries and concerns.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the HR Officer.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of HR functions.

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to HR executives.

  • Maintain accurate and updated personnel records.

  • Support in recruitment processes, including interviewing and coordination.

  • Assist with performance appraisals and staff motivation activities.

  • Provide guidance on company policies to employees.

  • Track and update staff attendance, leave, and overtime data.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including PPE usage.

  • Respond to employee queries and concerns as needed.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial & Organizational Psychology, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of labour laws, regulations, and guidelines.

  • At least 1 year of experience in a similar role, preferably in a busy environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Keen attention to detail with strong organizational and planning abilities.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and HR systems.
