About the Organisation

Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Limited is a limited liability company solely owned by the Government of Uganda (GOU). It was established under Section 42 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development, and Production) Act and Section 7 of the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream Storage) Act, both of 2013. It was incorporated under the Companies Act of 2012 as a limited liability company on June 12th, 2015.

Job Description

The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Limited was established under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream storage) Act, both of 2013 and incorporated under the Companies' Act, 2012. It is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda.

The overall function of UNOC is to handle the State's commercial interests in the Oil and Gas industry and en- sure that the resource is exploited in a sustainable manner.

UNOC is offering Graduate Internship opportunities for a maximum of six (6) months - non-renewable contract to recent graduates interested in starting a career in an Oil and Gas industry.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scanning the horizon:

  • The strategy and innovation department actively monitors competitors, customers, employees, and market trends. This information guides the overall innovation strategy, aligning it with the company’s business goals1.

Innovation Training:

Empowering employees:

  • The department invests in employee development. Training sessions teach staff how to brainstorm, support others’ ideas, recognize good ideas, and foster a culture where everyone feels responsible for innovation1.


Collecting Ideas:

Idea aggregation:

  • Ideas can come from various sources. The department ensures that suggestions are collected systematically, preventing them from remaining hidden on cocktail napkins or desks1.


Connecting Ideas:

Concept development:

  • Once ideas emerge, the real work begins. The team connects ideas to form larger concepts. These concepts then become new projects, which are refined, researched, and tested. The best ideas receive resources and leadership support for implementation1.


Effective Communication:

Socializing insights:

  • The strategy and innovation department communicates research findings, best practices, and even “failures.” Sharing these experiences fosters a culture of innovation within the organization. Recognizing contributions from all stakeholders reinforces the value of input from every corner of the company

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree(Hons) in Economics, Information Technology, Business Administration, Business Studies or any other related field


Key Requirements

  • Must provide a copy of University Degree Transcript obtained from a recognized University i.e. (Bachelor's Degree).

  • Must have a minimum of a 2nd class upper degree, with a minimum CGPA of 4.0.

  • Must have scored a minimum of a Credit in Mathematics and English subjects at Ordinary Level (O' level).

  • Must have graduated not more than three years from the time of applying for this opportunity.

  • Excellent communication skills
