Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Director, Global Operations – Africa, the Finance Officer will provide essential day-to-day financial and accounting services to the Center’s Nairobi office and regional programs. Responsibilities include budget tracking, financial reporting, cash flow monitoring, processing payments, overseeing payroll compliance, supporting audits, and ensuring statutory and donor financial requirements are met. This role requires collaboration with the US finance team and offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic, mission-driven organization advocating for reproductive rights globally.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and procedures.
Support preparation and reforecasting of annual budgets.
Monitor and track office and program budgets against expenditures.
Process payments, expense reports, staff advances, reconciliations, and reimbursements.
Coordinate invoice, bill, payroll, and statutory payments.
Maintain accurate records in accounting systems and SharePoint.
Monitor cash flow and assist in bank account management.
Ensure timely month-end closings and bank reconciliations.
Manage payroll schedules, internal approvals, and compliance with local tax laws.
Coordinate financial reporting and ensure timely submissions.
Maintain adherence to local statutory compliance, including taxes and audit requirements.
Support annual audits and financial filings.
Maintain financial documentation and data systems.
Perform any other finance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required).
CPA(K), ACCA, or other professional accounting certification (preferred).
Minimum 5 years' experience in financial management, preferably in an NGO, donor agency, or international organization.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budget analysis, and financial planning.
Experience with ERP systems and electronic communication tools.
Ability to interpret and apply financial regulations with sound judgment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in donor compliance and financial reporting.
Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
Strong data analysis, attention to detail, and documentation skills.
Independent and team-oriented leadership skills.
