Job Description
Job Title: Finance Manager (1 position)

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITY DESCRIPTION
Financial Oversight and Accounting
Ensure best practices in accounting in alignment with Ugandan laws, accounting standards, and Sozo’s budget, policies, procedures, and practices set forth by CFO.
Participate in Ugandan Budget planning and financial meetings as directed by CFO.
Ensure financial reporting is accurate, complete, and timely and communicate any financial needs or concerns to CFO.
Produce Monthly Financials
Negotiate exchange rate for international wires.
Disperse salaries to Sozo Children Uganda staff as scheduled, currently monthly, in accordance with Uganda law and regulations and Sozo policies, procedures, and practices
File taxes and other government financial reporting on a timely basis.
Financial Forecasting and Budgeting
Assist staff in projecting program income and expenses to determine budget,tracking each program projection, change, and trends.
Create annual budget for Uganda in alignment with budgeting principles and formatsset for by the CFO.
Work with staff to determine final annual budget.
Track spending towards annual budget.
Communicate budget progress with staff throughout year
Financial Accountability
Coordinate with CFO to create financial accountability principles and practices.
Ensure all financial transactions are accounted for and documented in accordance with Uganda laws and regulations, standard accounting rules andpractices and Sozo Children principles, policies, and practices and report any concerns to the CEO and CFO immediately.
Develop and uphold finance and financial policies and procedures relevantto the Uganda operations in cooperation with the Country Director in Uganda and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the United States.
Train personnel in finance-related policies, practices, and procedures that arerelevant to their ministry position.
Required by the organization are provided in time in order to achieve the set goals.
Office Supplies, Hardware and Software
Coordinate with Purchasing and Maintenance Manager to ensure all necessary stationary is available in the Sozo Children office.
Coordinate with department leaders and Purchasing and Maintenance Manager toensure adequate bids and fulfill office supply needs.
Ensure all equipment supplied to Sozo has the relevant accompanying documentation and are registered in the central equipment inventory database for effective tracking and management of organization ICT resources.
House Utilities
Ensure each utility (water, electricity, cable, etc) are paid on time and in full every month.
Track receipts and keep receipts to turn in for every payment.
Risk Management
Coordinate with US Officers to ensure adequate insurance coverages are contracted (purchased), including coverages for workers’ compensation, vehicles (liability, etc.), property, general liability, professional liability (nurses, etc.), and any other coverages deemed necessary or appropriate.
Develop and implement policies, procedures and strategies that will ensure effective and legally compliant management of all Sozo Children financial initiatives.
Lead the development of policies and procedures that will ensure efficient and effective resource management and a good standard of customer service provided by the Finance team.
Monitor the performance of existing financial policies, systems and procedures in order to identify improvement needs and take corrective action as appropriate.
Ensure Sozo Children staff are empowered to follow financial procedures and work according to best practice; including ensuring clear communication, guidance and and training.
Maintain ongoing dialogue with regulatory agencies to ensure that Sozo Children financial initiatives and responsibilities are proactively managed according to best practice so as to mitigate risk and avoid legal implication.
Oversee the development of financial contracts in coordination with Sozo’s third part attorney to ensure Sozo Children’s interests are protected and the resultant contract is legally compliant.
Cash Management
Ensure that adequate bank balances are maintained in order to assure effective and efficient continuing operations, while avoiding excessive bank and cash advance

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Requirements & Experience:
Masters of Business Administration or equivalent experience will be of added advantage
Fully qualified and certified professional accountant
Minimum of seven years’ experience working directly in a Christ-centered, child focused NGO is desired
3-5 years in senior management in an NGO setting, preferably in a multi-donor and grant funded environment
Other Job Requirements:
Must be a born again Christian,
Strong analytical skills and experience, Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and QuickBooks
Experience in services related to payroll such as writing checks and submitting payroll taxes
Strong understanding of business and tax worksheets and computations, Proven fundraising and network chain development skills
Proven ability to resolve issues in a calm and efficient manner with excellent writtenand verbal communication skills and ability to interact well with different cultures
Excellent problemsolving skills, extremely collegial and leads by example, A hands-on servant leader with integrity and a passion for the organization’s mission is essential
