Job Description

FHI 360 serves more than 70 countries and all U.S. states and territories. FHI360 in strategic partnership with Population Services International (PSI) Discovering Innovations in Self-Care (DISC) will scale up DMPA-SC self- injection in the 7 USAID-UHA regions.
FHI 360 thus seeks services of Family Planning Specialists on a consultancy basis for a period of 65 days from 1st March to 30th September 2024, to support the coordination and implementation of the project activities in the seven (7) regions of Acholi, Ankole, Bugisu, Busoga, Karamoja, Kigezi and Lango. The Family Planning Specialists (consultants) will work towards addressing the health system strengthening challenges related to the introduction of Moment of Truth (MoT) and DMPA-SC Self- injection scale-up as part of the method mix. The specialists will be required to provide technical support towards scale up the uptake of DMPA-SC for Self-Injection. The family project's regional offices and will be mentored planning specialists will be based in the UHA by the UHA regional FP advisors
Duties and Responsibilities
Conducting medical history, physical examination, and laboratory tests to assess the reproductive health status and needs of clients
Providing education and counseling on various contraceptive methods, including their effectiveness, side effects, benefits, and risks
Prescribing, dispensing, or administering contraceptive methods, such as pills, injections, implants, intrauterine devices, condoms, and sterilization
Providing preconception care, such as screening for genetic disorders, infections, and chronic diseases that may affect pregnancy outcomes
Providing prenatal care, such as monitoring fetal development, detecting complications, and referring to obstetricians or other specialists when needed
Providing postnatal care, such as checking for postpartum complications, promoting breastfeeding, and offering family planning counseling and services
Providing abortion care, such as providing information, counseling, and referrals for safe and legal abortion services
Providing infertility care, such as diagnosing the causes of infertility, offering treatment options, and referring to assisted reproductive technologies when appropriate
Providing sexual health care, such as screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), treating STIs, and providing education and counseling on sexual health issues
Providing gender-affirming care, such as providing information, counseling, and referrals for hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgeries for transgender and non-binary clients
Providing adolescent health care, such as providing age-appropriate and confidential services for young people who need family planning or sexual health services
Providing menopausal health care, such as providing information, counseling, and treatment options for menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis prevention
Collaborating with other health professionals and community organizations to provide comprehensive and integrated family planning and reproductive health services
Advocating for the rights and needs of clients and promoting access to quality family planning and reproductive health services

They are able to work collaboratively with other health professionals and refer their clients to other services when needed.
