Enrolled Nurse job at Kaabong District Local Government

Job Description

They work under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver patient care, administer treatments, and assist with medical procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Care:

  • Assisting patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility.

  • Monitoring patients' vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatment, reporting any changes or concerns to the healthcare team.


Medication Administration:

  • Administering medications orally, intravenously, intramuscularly, or via other routes as prescribed by physicians or advanced practice providers.

  • Ensuring medication safety by verifying patient identity, dosage accuracy, and administration technique.


Treatment and Procedures:

  • Assisting with medical procedures, diagnostic tests, and therapeutic interventions under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians.

  • Providing support during wound care, dressing changes, catheterization, and other invasive procedures.


Documentation and Reporting:

  • Documenting patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and comprehensively in electronic health records (EHRs) or other medical documentation systems.

  • Communicating pertinent information to the healthcare team during handoffs, shift changes, and interdisciplinary rounds.


Patient Education and Support:

  • Providing education to patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, medications, and self-care strategies.

  • Offering emotional support, counseling, and reassurance to patients and families coping with illness, injury, or chronic conditions.


Safety and Infection Control:

  • Adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections and ensure patient safety.

  • Implementing measures to prevent falls, pressure ulcers, medication errors, and other adverse events.


Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Collaborating with registered nurses, physicians, therapists, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate care, address patient needs, and promote continuity of care.

  • Participating in interdisciplinary meetings, care conferences, and care planning discussions to optimize patient outcomes.

Qualifications and Competencies

Education and Training:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing program leading to enrollment as a nurse.

  • Typically, enrolled nurses obtain a diploma or certificate in nursing from a recognized institution.

  • Successful completion of the national licensing examination or certification process to become licensed or registered as an enrolled nurse.


Licensing and Certification:

  • Enrolled nurses must be licensed or registered by the appropriate regulatory body in their country or jurisdiction.

  • Compliance with continuing education requirements to maintain licensure and stay updated on best practices and advancements in nursing.


Clinical Skills:

  • Proficiency in fundamental nursing skills, such as patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, wound care, medication administration, and basic life support.

  • Ability to perform clinical procedures safely and accurately, following established protocols and guidelines.


Communication Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, caregivers, and members of the healthcare team.

  • Capacity to provide clear instructions, explain treatment plans, and offer emotional support to patients and their loved ones.


Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Abilities:

  • Strong critical thinking skills to assess patient needs, analyze clinical data, and make informed decisions regarding patient care.

  • Ability to anticipate potential complications, respond to emergencies, and implement appropriate interventions in a timely manner.


Empathy and Compassion:

  • Empathetic and compassionate approach to patient care, demonstrating sensitivity to patients' physical, emotional, and psychological needs.

  • Ability to establish rapport with patients, build trust, and provide comfort during times of illness or distress.


Teamwork and Collaboration:

  • Willingness to collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including registered nurses, physicians, therapists, and support staff, to deliver comprehensive patient care.

  • Capacity to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing expertise and supporting colleagues in achieving common goals.
