Designing Electrical Systems: Develop plans and specifications for electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, communication, and control systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and building codes.
Project Management: Coordinate and oversee electrical engineering projects from concept to completion, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. Monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure projects meet quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct testing, inspection, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and components to identify issues, diagnose problems, and implement solutions. Ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Equipment Selection and Procurement: Select appropriate electrical equipment, materials, and components for projects based on technical requirements, specifications, and budget constraints. Source suppliers, review proposals, and negotiate contracts for equipment procurement.
Technical Analysis: Perform technical analysis, calculations, and simulations to evaluate the performance, efficiency, and reliability of electrical systems. Use software tools and modeling techniques to optimize designs and predict system behavior.
Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, regulations, and codes, such as National Electrical Code (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, and local building codes. Implement safety measures to protect personnel and equipment from electrical hazards.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical drawings, diagrams, reports, and documentation to communicate engineering designs, specifications, and recommendations to stakeholders, clients, and regulatory authorities.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and clients, to integrate electrical systems with overall building design and construction projects. Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are understood and met.
Maintenance and Support: Provide technical support and guidance during construction, installation, commissioning, and operation of electrical systems. Develop maintenance plans, procedures, and schedules to ensure ongoing performance and reliability of electrical equipment.
Research and Development: Stay abreast of advancements in electrical engineering technologies, materials, and methodologies. Conduct research, experiments, and prototype development to innovate and improve electrical systems and processes.

Education: A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field is typically required. Some positions may prefer candidates with a master's degree or specialized coursework in electrical engineering.
Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or eligibility for licensure is often required for senior-level or leadership positions, particularly those involved in public safety or regulated industries. Licensing requirements vary by state and country.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in electrical engineering principles, theories, and practices, including circuit analysis, power distribution, electromagnetism, and control systems. Familiarity with engineering software tools, such as AutoCAD, MATLAB, and simulation software.
Design Experience: Experience with electrical system design, layout, and drafting, including schematic diagrams, one-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams. Knowledge of industry standards and codes, such as IEEE, IEC, and NEC.
Project Management: Strong project management skills, including planning, organizing, and coordinating engineering projects from conception to completion. Ability to manage budgets, schedules, resources, and deliverables effectively.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues, analyze complex problems, and develop innovative solutions. Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and components effectively.
Communication Skills: Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey technical information, present engineering designs, and interact with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to achieve project goals. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy, precision, and compliance with technical specifications and standards. Ability to review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and documents.
Ethical Conduct: Commitment to professional ethics, integrity, and responsibility in all aspects of engineering practice. Adherence to ethical standards and codes of conduct established by professional engineering organizations.
Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in electrical engineering through ongoing professional development, training, and education.
Experience: Relevant work experience in electrical engineering, preferably in areas such as power systems, electronics, renewable energy, or building systems. Experience with engineering design, analysis, and project management in a professional setting is desirable.
