Duties and Responsibilities
Design and Development:
Design electrical systems and instrumentation for new projects.
Develop detailed engineering plans, schematics, and layouts.
Select appropriate equipment and materials to meet project specifications.
Installation and Commissioning:
Oversee the installation of electrical systems and instrumentation.
Conduct testing and commissioning of new equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Troubleshoot issues during the installation process and resolve any problems.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Perform routine maintenance on electrical systems and instrumentation.
Diagnose and resolve faults or malfunctions in electrical equipment and control systems.
Implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
Calibration and Testing:
Calibrate instruments to ensure accurate measurements and control.
Perform regular testing of systems to maintain reliability and efficiency.
Document calibration and testing results for compliance and quality control.
Process Optimization:
Analyze data from instrumentation to identify areas for process improvement.
Implement changes to enhance the efficiency and performance of electrical systems.
Work with other engineering disciplines to optimize overall plant performance.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all electrical and instrumentation work complies with safety standards and regulations.
Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments.
Develop and enforce safety procedures for electrical work.
Project Management:
Manage electrical and instrumentation projects from concept to completion.
Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets.
Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of electrical systems and instrumentation.
Prepare technical reports, manuals, and documentation.
Report on project progress and maintenance activities.
Training and Support:
Provide training to technicians and operators on electrical systems and instrumentation.
Offer technical support and guidance to maintenance teams.
Develop training materials and standard operating procedures.
Qualifications and Competencies
Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field.
Professional certification or licensure (e.g., Professional Engineer, Certified Automation Professional) is often preferred.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and instrumentation.
Proficiency in using design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, PLC programming tools).
Experience with control systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and HMI.
Experience:
Relevant work experience in electrical engineering and instrumentation, typically 3-5 years.
Experience in industrial settings such as manufacturing, oil and gas, or power generation is highly desirable.
Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
Strong analytical skills to interpret data and optimize processes.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel.
Attention to Detail:
Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in design, maintenance, and documentation.
Strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects and tasks.
Knowledge of Standards and Regulations:
Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI) and regulations (e.g., OSHA, NEC).
Understanding of safety protocols and best practices in electrical engineering.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in industrial environments, which may include exposure to noise, heat, and hazardous materials.
Capability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
