Job Description
It’s hard to believe that today 844 million people do not have clean water and 2.3 billion do not have a decent toilet – around one in three of the world’s population. Every two minutes, a child under five dies from diarrheal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation.
Our vision to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone,
everywhere by 2030. To realise this vision, we are implementing a new Country Strategy for the period 2023 to 2028. The new strategy is intended to align WaterAid Uganda Country Program to the Global WaterAid Strategy 2023 to 2028. As part of the transition to the new strategy a new organisation structure has been developed.
We’re looking for people who share a commitment to our vision to fill various new and vacant positions in our structure as listed below. All positions are available on fixed term contracts
which are renewable subject to funding and performance. We provide competitive and attractive salary and benefits.
WaterAid Uganda is looking to fill the vacant position stated in this advert to play a vital role in our mission to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere by 2030.
Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation:
Transport passengers or goods from one location to another safely and efficiently.
Adhere to scheduled routes, time tables, and stop locations as required.
Vehicle Maintenance:
Regularly inspect and maintain the vehicle's condition.
Perform basic repairs and report any significant issues to a mechanic.
Ensure the vehicle is clean and presentable at all times.
Safety Compliance:
Follow all traffic laws and regulations.
Ensure all passengers wear seat belts and adhere to safety protocols.
Load and unload cargo safely and securely.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate logs of trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents.
Keep records of vehicle maintenance and repairs.
Customer Service:
Provide a courteous and professional service to passengers.
Assist passengers with boarding and luggage if necessary.
Address passenger inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively.
Navigation and Route Planning:
Plan routes to minimize travel time and fuel consumption.
Use GPS systems and maps to navigate unfamiliar routes.
Compliance with Company Policies:
Follow company policies and procedures.
Wear company uniforms or adhere to dress codes if required.
Attend training sessions and meetings as needed.

Qualifications and Competencies
Licensing and Certifications:
Possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle being driven.
Additional certifications may be required for specific vehicles (e.g., CDL for commercial trucks, passenger transport license).
Experience:
Relevant driving experience, often specified in job postings (e.g., 2-3 years of commercial driving experience).
Experience with specific types of vehicles if required (e.g., buses, trucks).
Clean Driving Record:
A clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents.
Background checks may be conducted to ensure compliance.
Physical Fitness:
Physical ability to sit for extended periods and handle loading/unloading of cargo.
Good vision and hearing capabilities.
Skills:
Proficiency in operating various types of vehicles.
Strong navigation skills and familiarity with GPS technology.
Basic mechanical knowledge to handle minor vehicle issues.
Personal Attributes:
Punctuality and reliability.
Good communication skills for interacting with passengers, clients, and employers.
High level of professionalism and customer service orientation.
Knowledge:
Understanding of traffic laws and regulations.
Familiarity with vehicle maintenance procedures and safety protocols.
