Job Description
The role entails daily vehicle operations, ensuring the safe transport of UGHE staff, visitors, and assets. The Driver is expected to conduct pre- and post-trip inspections, ensure that all documents are valid and up to date, and comply with all traffic rules and UGHE policies. The role requires professionalism, punctuality, and good knowledge of local routes. The Driver will also be required to operate modern fleet technologies and support logistics when needed, including during weekends or outside normal working hours.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Operate UGHE vehicles for transporting staff, equipment, and documents
Follow assigned routes and schedules, adjusting based on operational needs
Conduct regular vehicle inspections and report any maintenance needs
Ensure vehicle documentation is current and compliant
Report incidents, damages, or mechanical issues promptly
Keep vehicles clean and secure at all times
Utilize fleet management and GPS tracking systems
Be available to work weekends or off-hours as required
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education
At least an Advanced Level Certificate (High School Diploma or equivalent)
Licensing
Valid Class D driver’s license (D1 preferred)
Experience
Proven professional driving experience, preferably in a university, NGO, or corporate environment
Familiarity with local and regional routes
Skills
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda (French is an added advantage)
Basic computer skills: Excel, Word, and professional email communication
Familiarity with vehicle tracking/reporting systems is a plus
