Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, the Director will oversee the creation of technical guidance, training curricula, and capacity-building content for Blue Ventures’ thematic areas: community-based fisheries management, food security, secure rights, and financial inclusion. The role requires strong leadership in managing a team of subject matter experts and ensuring content is practical, innovative, and grounded in lived community experiences. The Director will also contribute to the strategic direction, integration of digital learning platforms, collaboration with global partners, and quality assurance of learning materials. A significant part of the role involves engaging in global learning initiatives and ensuring Blue Ventures remains a trusted authority in community fisheries knowledge.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Senior Leadership
Define long-term strategy and priorities for training and learning.
Promote cohesion and collaboration across functions.
Represent Blue Ventures with key stakeholders including donors and the Board.
Contribute to organisation-wide OKRs and internal communication strategies.
Strategic Leadership and Vision
Develop frameworks for fisheries management, financial inclusion, and food security.
Align training with global best practices and real-world experiences.
Content and Curriculum Development
Oversee development of technical documents and adaptable training materials.
Integrate local knowledge and case studies.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
Manage and mentor a diverse team of technical experts.
Collaborate with regional and global teams and external partners.
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
Regularly review and refine training content.
Maintain feedback loops with regional teams and partners.
Global Learning Contribution
Contribute to global knowledge sharing and peer learning events.
Highlight community experiences and local innovations.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education
Doctorate in Natural Resource Management, Fisheries Science, Marine Ecology, Environmental Studies, or related field.
Experience
Extensive leadership in community-based conservation programmes, especially in low-income countries.
Experience with fisheries management, food security, and climate resilience programmes.
Proven track record in creating and implementing capacity-building strategies and training content.
Skilled in managing digital learning systems and knowledge-sharing platforms.
Strong experience in managing cross-functional and remote teams.
Proficient in distilling complex technical content for diverse audiences.
Understanding of climate finance and carbon project development.
Fluency in English; additional languages such as Malagasy, French, Spanish, Bahasa, or Portuguese are advantageous.
