Job Description
The Data Analyst II will be responsible for acquiring, transforming, and maintaining datasets; performing statistical and predictive modelling; and designing reports, dashboards, and data visualisations. The role includes analysing medium-to-complex datasets to identify trends and risks, cleaning and validating imported data, and researching best practices for data analytics solutions. The analyst will support governance processes by ensuring compliance with policies and legislation, provide specialist advice to stakeholders, and contribute to efficiency improvements within SARS’s risk management and decision-making frameworks.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Acquire and manage data from primary/secondary sources; maintain databases.
Perform statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and data mining.
Design, develop, and test medium-to-complex data analytics solutions (reports, dashboards, models).
Identify and interpret trends and patterns in large datasets.
Communicate analysis findings using advanced data visualisation techniques.
Maintain and improve existing analytics solutions.
Clean and validate data to correct errors and ensure quality.
Research and recommend improvements for current business operations.
Contribute to process optimisation and efficiency improvements.
Ensure compliance with governance, policies, and legislation.
Build productive working relationships with peers and team members.
Provide specialist expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications
Option 1: Bachelor’s Degree/Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Statistics, Mathematical Sciences, Computer Science, IT, Data Science, or Economics plus 5–7 years’ experience in data analytics/data science/mathematical sciences/research (2–3 years at skilled technical level). Knowledge of tax products is advantageous.
Option 2: Senior Certificate (NQF 4) plus 10 years of related experience in data analytics/data science/mathematical sciences/research/economics (2–3 years at skilled technical level). Knowledge of tax products is advantageous.
Skills & Knowledge
Proficiency in data analysis tools, database design/management, and business intelligence solutions.
Strong understanding of statistical and mathematical analysis.
Knowledge of data management, reporting, and information management.
Computer literacy and technical expertise in analytics tools.
Strong governance, compliance, and functional policy awareness.
