Cooperative Development Specialists job at GENEX Cooperative
Job Description
GENEX Cooperative is seeking Cooperative Development Specialists for a five-year, USAID-funded project to strengthen the organizational and operational capacities of cattle cooperatives in Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda. Cooperative Development Specialists in each country will support cattle cooperatives to provide valuable services to members through improved governance, leadership, and financial management. Cooperative Development Specialists will lead interventions that address individual cooperative needs in alignment with capacity support plans and project objectives and will facilitate pilots to identify new opportunities for cooperative growth. Cooperative Development Specialists will provide technical guidance related to livestock management and ensure timely delivery of results in coordination with project staff and partner projects in Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, manage, coordinate, and ensure achievement of performance targets for all
cooperative development activities by addressing individual capacity needs of project cooperatives;
Facilitate livestock market system development based on cooperative principles and values;
Support capacity strengthening, network expansion, and profitable functioning of
cooperatives, public extension agents, and business service providers (e.g., agri-businesses, veterinary technicians, extension agents) through multi-stakeholder trainings, workshops, and learning events;
Prioritize meaningful inclusion of women and youth in cooperative membership, leadership, and livestock systems;
Co-design, support, and monitor implementation of cooperative business plans, including through direct technical assistance and coaching; and
Develop and nurture effective partnership with national and local governments, NGOs, CBOs, private sector, and donors working on cooperative development and/or livestock competitiveness.

Qualifications and Competencies
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Host country citizenship or residency with work authorization required;
Bachelor’s degree in dairy science, agronomy, business administration, rural development, agricultural economics, or similar field;
Minimum of 10 years of work experience required, at least 5 of which must be working with cooperatives to strengthen their capacities;
Technical knowledge related to dairy management required;
Experience in administering organizational capacity assessments, designing capacity support plans, creating business plans, and coordinating training initiatives required;
Experience working with agri-businesses and financial institutions strongly preferred;
Experience in increasing participation by women and youth in cooperatives strongly preferred;
Demonstrated knowledge of data collection, management, and analysis techniques preferred;
Professional fluency in Microsoft® suite, English, and common local languages required;
Excellent communication skills and ability to lead and motivate diverse groups required; and
Willingness and ability to work in the field at least 70% of the time.
