Job Description

Lira University was established as a Public University by Statutory Instrument No.35, of July 18th 2015 to expand access to equitable quality Higher Education in the country and to respond to the critical Human Resource Development needs of the country. The University is governed by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 as amended 2006 of the Republic of Uganda. The University is located in Lango Sub-region in Northern Uganda, Lira City. In order to fulfill the current mandate and to position the University to assist local community and build their capacity for socio economic enhancement, the university has to fill positions with personnel with required skills and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching: Deliver lectures, seminars, and laboratory sessions to undergraduate students in Physiology. Prepare and develop course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, and assessment tools. Provide guidance and support to students in understanding complex physiological concepts.

  • Research: Conduct research in the field of Physiology, including designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and publishing findings in academic journals. Collaborate with other faculty members and researchers on interdisciplinary projects.

  • Student Supervision: Supervise undergraduate students in their research projects, dissertations, and practical exercises. Provide mentorship and guidance to students to help them develop their research skills and achieve academic success.

  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and revision of curriculum content and learning objectives within the Physiology Department. Stay updated on advances in the field and incorporate relevant topics and techniques into the curriculum.

  • Assessment: Design and administer assessments, examinations, and coursework assignments to evaluate students' understanding and progress in Physiology. Provide constructive feedback to students to support their learning and academic development.

  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development activities, including attending conferences, workshops, and seminars related to Physiology. Stay abreast of developments in teaching methods, research techniques, and academic trends.

  • Departmental Service: Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and academic governance activities. Contribute to the overall functioning and development of the Physiology Department through collaboration with colleagues and involvement in departmental initiatives.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education: A minimum of a Master's degree in Physiology or a closely related field is typically required. Some institutions may prefer candidates with a Ph.D. in Physiology or a related discipline.

  • Teaching Experience: Prior teaching experience, such as serving as a teaching assistant or instructor in Physiology courses, is often preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to undergraduate students.
