Job Description
The Assistant Accountant will be part of VKB Milling’s finance team, playing a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance. The position requires hands-on experience with reconciliations, journals, VAT, asset management, and operational support in a fast-paced processing environment. The candidate will also assist with audits, reporting, and resolving financial queries across the division.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare reconciliations of control accounts
Process month-end journals and invoices for approval
Calculate VAT and manage asset register and CAPEX applications
Capitalize assets and reconcile asset projects in progress
Conduct reasonability checks and assist with monthly reporting
Support internal and external audit processes
Assist with sales and purchase order processing
Resolve finance-related queries and issues
Manage petty cash
Conduct spot checks on creditors’ reconciliations
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications & Experience:
Relevant BCom degree in Accountancy or equivalent
Completed SAIPA/SAICA articles is an advantage
1–3 years of relevant accounting experience in an operational or processing environment
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level)
Experience with Microsoft Navision or Business Central is beneficial
Skills and Competencies:
Strong analytical and numerical ability
Sound decision-making and fault-finding capabilities
Ability to work independently and within a team
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Organized, with strong planning and time management skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to perform under pressure
