Ankole (Mbarara) District was founded in 1901. The abolition of Ankole federal and kingdom government in 1967, gave rise to Mbarara District Local Government (MDLG). Mbarara, the main town of Ankole District became a township in 1957. Following the Coup of 1972, the name Ankole District was changed to Mbarara District, and the township was transformed into a municipality in 1974.

In 1973, Bushenyi District was created out of Mbarara. In 1995 Ntungamo District was created and in 2002, the sub-county of Itojo, formerly part of Mbarara, was added to Ntungamo District. In 2005, the boundary was significantly reduced and the district was further split into three other district Local Governments namely, Isingiro (comprised of Bukanga and Isingiro counties), Kiruhura (comprised of Nyabushozi and Kazo counties) and Ibanda (comprised of Ibanda County).

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the under listed vacant post that exist in Mbarara District Local Government. Applications to be submitted in triplicate on PSF 3 Revised 2008 to the Secretary District Service Commission, P. O. Box 1, Mbarara to be received not later than 18th January, 2024.

Those already in Government Service should route their applications through their Responsible Officers who should be informed of the closing date to avoid delay.
The Application Forms are obtained from the District Service Commission and Chief Administrative Officer's offices country wide.

  • Checking and controlling access to the district offices, verifying the identity of visitors and issuing passes

  • Reporting any suspicious or unusual activities, incidents or threats to the relevant authorities

  • Responding to emergencies, alarms or disturbances and providing assistance as needed

  • Maintaining records of daily activities, incidents and visitors

  • Performing routine checks and inspections of the premises, equipment and vehicles

  • Ensuring compliance with the district policies, rules and regulations regarding security and safety

The qualifications for the Askari job include:

  • A minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent

  • A valid certificate of good conduct from the police

  • A minimum of two years of experience in security work

  • Knowledge of basic security procedures and techniques

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and local languages

  • Ability to work under pressure and in a team

  • Physical fitness and readiness to work in shifts

Certified Photocopies of all Academic qualifications, National identity card, identity cards of schools and institutions attended, CV, 3 recent passport size photographs and any other relevant documents deemed necessary must be attached.
