Job Description
The Ambulance Driver will be responsible for operating the hospital’s emergency vehicle to transport patients safely to and from medical facilities. The role includes regular inspections and maintenance checks of the vehicle, assisting with patient loading and unloading, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene of the vehicle, and keeping accurate logs. The candidate must be calm under pressure and capable of navigating efficiently to emergency scenes and healthcare centers.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct daily pre-shift inspection of ambulance for fuel, oil, fluids, tire condition, and basic functionality
Ensure ambulance is fully stocked with necessary first aid and medical supplies
Assist patients safely onto stretchers and into the ambulance
Drive ambulance efficiently and safely to assigned destinations during emergencies
Keep the vehicle clean and sanitized, disposing of waste and soiled linens properly
Maintain an accurate driving log including trip records, mileage, patient details, and tasks completed
Respond promptly to calls and follow dispatch instructions accurately
Communicate effectively with medical personnel and patients during transport
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum of SSCE or OND
Valid driver's license
2 – 5 years of proven experience in driving, preferably in emergency or health-related transport
Emergency Vehicle Operator certification is an added advantage
Strong defensive driving and navigation skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations
Sound judgment and decision-making skills
Physically fit and capable of assisting with patient handling
