Job Description
Position Title: Loan Collections Officer (37 Positions)

Location: Northern, Eastern, Western, and Central Uganda
Reporting to: Loan Collection Supervisor
BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd is seeking dynamic and results-driven individuals to join our team as Loan Collections Officers. The successful candidates will be responsible for managing written-off loan portfolios and loans at risk of write-off. They will implement strategic recovery actions to improve portfolio performance and contribute to the bank’s profitability in line with our recovery policy and legal frameworks.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Analyze delinquent loan portfolios to determine causes of default and propose timely recovery actions.
Categorize delinquent accounts (Watch, Substandard, Loss, Written-off) and apply appropriate recovery strategies.
Recommend and monitor assignment of delinquent accounts to external debt collectors; oversee their performance and closure of cases.
Manage Portfolio at Risk (PAR), especially large accounts, and ensure risk levels remain within acceptable institutional thresholds.
Proactively reduce the number of loans classified as losses to protect the bank’s Net Book Value (NBV).
Initiate recovery actions for non-performing loans in collaboration with legal teams and external collectors.
Plan and coordinate recovery efforts for written-off and non-performing loans in accordance with bank policies.
Submit timely and detailed recovery reports with actionable recommendations to the Manager Loan Collection or Regional Manager.
Train, coach, and mentor field staff on best practices in delinquency management and loan recovery.
Negotiate repayment terms with debtors to ensure cost-effective recoveries.
Manage external debt collectors and ensure timely submission of monthly performance reports.
Support branches in holding regular delinquency meetings and recommend timely remedial actions.
Oversee litigation processes involving credit cases and ensure proper coordination with external legal teams.
Manage contracts and relationships with auctioneers, bailiffs, valuers, insurers, and other debt recovery service providers.
Supervise the sale of pledged assets and ensure full recovery of default amounts; ensure any excess is refunded to the borrower.
Maintain organized records of contracts, litigation files, service agreements, and other key documentation.
Collaborate with division managers to prevent loans from transitioning into the loss category.
Profile and monitor high-risk borrowers and top defaulters to ensure timely recovery interventions.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Business-related fields.
Additional certification in Law is an added advantage.
Key Competencies
Solid legal knowledge related to loan recovery
Strong analytical and investigative skills
Familiarity with the Financial Institutions Act (FIA)
Effective loan recovery and negotiation skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent teamwork, training, and mentoring abilities
High ethical standards and integrity
