Kampala, Uganda
The African Union – InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) is a specialized technical office of the African Union Commission, established in 1951 to support and coordinate the sustainable development and utilization of animal resources across Africa. With a mission to enhance the contribution of animal resources to food security, livelihoods, and economic growth in AU Member States, AU-IBAR is widely recognized for its leadership in animal health, livestock development, fisheries, and wildlife management.
The organization is known for its collaborative and mission-driven work culture, offering employees an opportunity to contribute to continent-wide impact while fostering professional growth through diverse, inclusive, and flexible work arrangements. AU-IBAR has evolved from a veterinary-focused institution to a comprehensive bureau addressing complex animal resource systems through policy support, capacity building, research, and innovation.
Its model leverages partnerships, data-driven strategies, and regional integration to address issues such as transboundary animal diseases, climate change, and trade barriers. Operating across all AU Member States, AU-IBAR’s reach and influence are continental, promoting core values of transparency, accountability, excellence, and sustainability. Its commitment to corporate social responsibility is evident in initiatives that empower communities, protect biodiversity, and promote gender equity in the animal resource sector.
